ATAYEF...hummmmm....help me make it!?!

Question:

ATAYEF...hummmmm....help me make it!?

I've tried it with instant pancake mix but it didn't stick after being filled.. This syrian lady at an arabic store suggested we got this mix for dumplings (arabic) but it stuck to the bottom so i gave up. I just got a recipe for the batter from Yahooanswer, but im eskeptical that something is gonna go wrong now. I saw my friend do it and dont remember her putting butter on the pot like for regular pancakes..Help!

Answers:

my ex mother in law was arab, and although she was a &*(#% from hell, she was a great cook and made those every ramadan. I dont know of a recipe but I watched her make them. what she did was heat them up on a griddle or in a large pan (very lightly greased) and only cook them on the one side on a pretty low heat. the side facing up would bubble on top and she would NOT flip them. They were cooked through all the way though, but I think her not flipping them is what made them stick together. Maybe you could try with the pancake mix just dont flip...? good luck! I wish there was a way I could find out from you if it worked! I want to try to make them this ramadan!
