Question:

There is a product in Japan called 'mochi'. What is it?

Answers:

It's a Japanese dessert, other Asian cultures have different variations of it, but it's basically sweet rice that's pounded into a paste and is molded into a flatten ball. It can also be made with Mochiko (sweet rice flour). The texture is smooth and some have flour on it so it won't be sticky while eating it. It's not too sweet. You could also get it with different things inside like sweet bean paste. The regular ones are white, but there are some that pink, green, etc and cut into diamond like shapes. They all taste the same though. There's some that are fried or covered with sesame seeds and coconut shavings.

We always make it for New Years as sign of good luck for the new year.

Mochi can also be made with other food, I've seen one that has a whole strawberry in it. There's also mochiko chicken and mochi soup and mochiko cookies, etc.
