Craving for Baklava?!
Craving for Baklava?
I had the most horrible craving for it today, went to Corrados (a grocery store which has many ethnic foods) and bough 2 different kinds. One of them was much better than the other two. I would really appreciate responses from well-informed people (preferably Greeks): tell me what exactly the traditional "γιαγι?" recipe is and how the real baklava looks like!
Please don't give me links to other websites, I already Googled it :-)

I married into the Greek family and wonderfully, my mother in law and many of the "yiayias" of our church have taught me to make many of the yummy foods. I'm guessing the one you really liked was diamond shaped, which seems to be the way every one cuts theirs for fancy serving (His grandmother served huge rectangles when we were in Athens....I gained 20 lbs, I swear!). I'd give you the recipe, but the one above looked pretty adequate. Just remember cold syrup on a hot baklava, or hot syrup on a cold baklava, but never hot on hot or cold on cold. I've been warned it creates disaster!
