Thank you, thank you; sorry if I didn't elaborate. My family has achote and gonduli beans growing in the yard. Asian has nothing to do with it;maybe in the mainland but not in Hawaii. I will choose the best answer if you can add one more detail....why do the Bodinqua's (Tutu na Wahine) add just one olive to every pastele??????

hey, gosh i don't have a recipe or a good answer as to why only one olive is put in the pasteles by bondiquas or tutu wahines...that's something i always wondered about...i love the olives. but in my opinion and some of my families; if you put to much olives it over powers the banana and pork. mmmm...im from hawaii too and my mouth is watering for one ono pastele right now. that kinda stuff is hard for find in the mainland. well, hope you find a good recipe and a real answer to your question. i just came to chat up...you know how locals to hawaii are. as people in hawaii say, "so podagee"! haha! take care and aloha!
