Greek or Italian, the best olive oil is pure VIRGIN olive oil, and from the FIRST PRESSING.
They're pretty clever in fooling you these days by packaging oil in GREEN tinted bottles, but pure virgin olive oil is GREEN in colour.
Light oil has been re-processed and has lost many of the healthy properties olive oil is known for. Same with any other type of olive oil that is not labeled as virgin from the first pressing.
I don't know if REGIONS produce better olives resulting in better taste, but I find there are subtle differences in taste. Bertolli is probably one of the best, but I prefer Carapelli as it costs a little less and usually will just buy what is on sale...but as I said never anything but VIRGIN!!!
I don't know by the way, if the Greeks have their own brands or if the use the same as us Italians!! :~)
