Can anyone recommend Japanese food I should try?
I'm a vegetarian so no fish!
Also, I can't Nori (sushi-nori - the sea-vegetable wrap) because it tastes truly awful to me; I've tried it a couple of times but it tastes like old fish to me.. is it something you can learn to get a taste for? No luck with sushi ginger either (sliced radish in ginger) my taste buds really hate it.
Miso soup is okay (still can't eat the sea vegetables though) and even Miso paste is fine - my taste buds don't like it much by my stomach loves it. :-)
I'm planning to go to Japan next year and I want to be able to eat normal Japanese food like everyone else.

Abura-age and Atsu-age (deep-fried tofu), koya-dofu (freeze-dried tofu), Kinako (parched soybean flour)
Usually kinako (literally meaning is yellow-colored flour), Edamame (young soybean)
Noodles/Pastas:
Udon (wheat noodles), Soba (buckwheat noodles), Somen (thin wheat noodles), and Ramen (Nishin Top Ramen)
Dried Food:
Hoshi Shiitake (mushroom), Kikurage (cloud ear mushroom),
Harusame (mung bean noodle), Kampyo (dried gourd strip)
Kampyo is one of the main fillings of sushi. Yuba (soymilk skin)
