Have you ever eaten Straw Mushrooms?
My local Chinese Food place always adds them to their dishes.
I find them kind of...well, gross. They have a very distinct and pungeant taste and smell that I find pretty unpleasent. The most unfortunate thing is they always dominate the dish...the stuff permiates everything! :)
Just curious to see if I was the only one who felt this way.

Yes, and I like mushrooms but not the canned ones! Fresh ones are definitively better, and added to vegetables they are quite nice but they should not overpower everything else. Maybe the restaurant you eat at uses a cheap brand of canned straw mushrooms, and the brine they are conserved in might contain preservatives and other chemicals that alter their taste, plus the "taste" of the can... try the fresh ones, but sparingly, and you will be pleasantly surprised!
