Actually it is called "nokkedli" in Hungarian, this has absolutely nothing to do with the Italian version of gnocchi which is made with potatoes in the dough. The proper name in English is called Spatzle. It is made with eggs, flour , salt and pepper, and it is a tiny dumpling that is traditionally served with Chicken Paprikas. gnocchi (said knocky) is Italian tiny flour/potato dumplings usually in a tomato based sauce ...

noki ... could be a variant ...

You saw it and didn't try it? tut tut!

I'll mark this - you've got me curious! Gnocci is a small potato dumpling, its popular in hungerion/polish cooking along with Italian. The are good to mix with tomato sauce, even a lite oil sauce served with kielbasa. NOKI (Bohemian Flour Dumplings):

This is a kind of gnocchi. It's the Hungarian version and the spelling is a variant. They are very easy to make and quite delicious. Perfect with a plain tomato-marinara sauce made from REAL summer tomatoes (otherwise, use a good brand of canned, plum).

Ingredients:

6 medium potatoes, cooked and pureed
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 small onion, minced
2 tablespoons minced parsley
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 eggs (do not beat)
1/3 cup semolina (Cream of Wheat)
1/2 cup milk
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

METHOD:

Mix potatoes, salt, pepper, onion, parsley, nutmeg, eggs and semolina thoroughly. Add milk and sifted flour. Mix all ingredients well. Knead on floured board. Shape into rolls, the approximate size of a walnut (in shell). Drop in boiling salted water. Boil 20 to 25 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon.

Note: You can also brown in butter and serve with your favourite sauce or gravy. nori is A kind of sushi.certalinly not austro-hungarian!! gnocchi are dumplings-can be added to soup
