Question:

Has anyone heard of MSG in chinese food?

what is it? is it bad for you?

Answers: my parents tell me it is a food enhancer, it makes you food taste better?
but yeah, its not very good for you. yes it makes u really tired. its not good for you. get chinese food with no msg. Monosodium glutamate, sodium glutamate, flavour enhancer 621, EU food additive code: E621, HS code: 29224220 (IUPAC name 2-aminopentanedioic acid. Also known as 2-aminoglutaric acid), commonly known as MSG, Ajinomoto, Vetsin, or accent, is a sodium salt of glutamic acid. MSG is a food additive, popularly marketed as a "flavour enhancer".
its not good for you it is a flavor enhancer... mono sodium glutamate... some people are allergic to it..like anything though... it is flavorless and odorless..and it is harmless cause you don`t get enough for it to be a problem....it`s not like you eat it on a daily basis... Monosodium glutamate. It's a "flavor enhancer" related to salt. Some people are very sensitive to it, but it doesn't bother most people.

I used to work for a Chinese restaurant. I tasted some once, it tasted pretty much like salt to me. I actually like the stuff. MSG is also used in a lot of food products like potato chips, instant soup, etc. It is monosodium glutamate and serves as a flavor enhancer. However, it's not that great for you because it's so high in sodium. And you don't find it in just Chinese food, so I'd ask or request "no MSG." As others have said, MSG is Mono Sodium Glutamate, a flavor enhancer. It's a Japanese invention and is generally made from soybeans or seaweed.

MSG is as safe as table salt for most people. The AMA and the UN's WHO have both ruled it to be a safe food additive. A very small percentage of the population react to it, getting what is sometimes called "Chinese restaurant headache."

If it bothers you, then request your dish be cooked without MSG and avoid using condiments that might contain MSG. I remember going to Faniuel Hall (Boston) in 1990 and the lady at the Chinese rest. there chased me with a pork on a stick thingy, repeating "No MSG, no MSG." Even then they knew it wasn't great for you.
My ex's son had a heart condition and he was warned to stay away from MSG. Not a healthy ingredient. I know McDonald's and many other American fast food chains, snacks, canned food, have used and still use MSG to enhance the flavors in their food.

The hundreds of million of Japanese, Indians, Koreans, Vietnamese, Malaysians and Chinese have also use the food enhancer for years. No one have died nor got sick because of consuming MSG flavoured food. No one ever will.

Have you heard of MSG in American food? It's about time you did some research about food processing in the US. And by the way, about 40% more Americans have gotten fatter (obese) than ever before. It's not the fault of MSG i assure you. it is a flavor enhancer.yes it is bad if you consume a lot of it.save it for when you have chinese food!
