Answers: k im actually a bajan so i wont tell u in theory ,i'll tell u wat i eat.
Bajans like a mix of ALL flavours(spicy,sweet wateva) AS LONG AS IT TASTE GUD!!!!!!
cou cou and flyin fish w' slimy ockras and breadfruit-cou cou and mackerel (or any meat for that matter)sometimes. Fish(marlin) an grill potatoes from the "Fish Net" in oistins town on fridays.ALWAYS pudding and souse pun satdays w' pickled cucumber.
chicken,in every possible way.pelau(a mix of rice chicken peas and wateva else you feel like)
mix pot(mostly old people do it but it tastes good,u basically clear out d fridge an put in a bit of every an anyting)
we dont do pepper pot i tink dats jamaica,u mite get dat sorta ting in a restaurant but down here almost evry can cook so mostly wen we want to go out we would go to chefette or kfc as oppose to expensive restaurants.
I hlped my mother cook from the time i could walk and was cooking on my own at nine.
MACORONI PIE buddy best served w' peas&rice an LOTS of gravy and baked chicken with some swt potato corn,coleslaw,potato salad cucumber and tomato
nothing like lemonade to wash it down especialy since it so hot nowadays.
most ppl drink mauby an tink its "sweet fuh days" but im picky an dont like it
i also don't like saltfish cakes,greatcake but there very popular.

as many trinis an guyanese live in b'dos theres also alot of curries,dhalpori,doubles,rotis an other delectable things
oats,barley,linseed and so on are used as porridge
soursoup punch is delicious as is chutney an mango punch when the season comes around...i'l b bac to say mo lata my hand tired :)

Bajan food is a blend of the old and the new, the imported and native. Its culinary traditions harken back to England and Africa but have evolved to take advantage of local products. As it's to be expected, fish is ubiquitous in Bajan diet, as are pork and chicken. Fruits and vegetables such as cassava, breadfuits, pawpaws, guavas and mangoes also have a predominant place.

Barbados cuisine combines various international cuisines such as African, Chinese, Caribbean, West Indian and European. Due to the fact that the island is surrounded by water, the main source of protein is fish and seafood. The surrounding waters offers a wide variety of fish including red Snapper, shark, kingfish, salt fish, bill fish, Tuna, salmon mackerel, Cod fish, Barracuda and dolphin as well as shrimps, lobsters and crabs. Other seafood delicacies are Sea Urchin and Flying Fish. Favored by the humid soil, Barbados is heavy on exotic fruits such as kiwi, papaya, bananas, pineapples and also various vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic and celery.

Barbados cuisine is characterized as Caribbean cuisine with influences borrowed from the international cuisine. Barbados national dish is coucou and Flying Fish. Coucou is a Barbados recipe which derives from African cuisine and it comes in a variety of types such as green banana cou-cou, breadfruit cou-cou. Cou-cou is normally served along with okra and fried Flying Fish. Barbadian cuisine also offers a large variety of meats such as rabbit, Duck, Ham, Pork, Chicken, Lamb, Beef, Turkey and Veal; meat is served fried, curried, pickled, grilled, roasted and baked. Barbadians like spicy meals and they have numerous spicy sauces used for flavoring the dishes; their special sauce is called “hot sauce”. East Indian elements are obvious in Barbadian cuisine by the numerous dishes which include roasted ingredients such as roasted fish, roasted Chicken, roasted Beef served generally with potatoes. Some of the traditional dishes include rice and peas, macaroni pie, pudding and souse, yam pie, sweet potato pie, scalloped potatoes, garlic baked potatoes, rice and spinach, pelau, chow mein, mashed Potato and pepper pot.

Bajan food is a bit spicy but not like Thai or Indian cuisine. It is much milder, tempered with sweet fruits to balance the flavors.
