Yugoslavian recipes?


when i was stationed in germany, 20 years ago, there was a restaurant we went to sometimes that had yugoslavian food...the place was called 'mira'...i've yet to find any yugoslavian restaurants since then, so i was wondering, does anyone know where i can find some recipes?


Answers: YUGOSLAVIAN KOLACKI

Good Holiday cookies.

1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. butter
1 tbsp. milk
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream butter, cream cheese, milk and sugar. Add egg yolk, vanilla and flour. Mix and knead into a smooth dough. Roll out 1/8 inch thick and cut in squares. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and fill with preserves or almonds or poppy seed is also good. Pick up opposite corners and press together in the center. Bake in 400 degree oven for 10 minutes or until slightly brown. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar.

YUGOSLAVIAN
SAHTRASHE

6 slices bacon
2 lg. onions, quartered vertically, then horizontally
2 green peppers, sliced vertically in 3/4" slices, then horizontally
4 med. size fresh tomatoes, cut in eighths
1 sm. can tomato sauce plus 3/4 can water
Salt to taste

In skillet, fry bacon to preferred crispness. Remove. Add green peppers to bacon drippings in skillet. Cover with lid and saute 2 minutes over medium heat. Add onions, cover with lid and saute 4 minutes (stir once or twice).
Lower heat, add tomatoes and salt. Cover with lid and simmer 4 minutes or until tomatoes are done. Add tomato sauce and water. Increase heat to medium. Bring to a boil and mix, then remove from heat immediately.

Serve this over mashed potatoes (or cooked rice) and top with bacon.

The bacon can be substituted with frankfurters, about 3, cut in slices, and fried in little oil or shortening. Remove from pan. Wipe pan with paper towel and place 2 full tablespoons shortening in pan. Then follow above recipe.

One small can of whole tomatoes can be substituted for fresh tomatoes. Cut tomatoes into pieces and add to the ingredients as the fresh tomatoes. Add 1/2 can of water to the juice of the canned tomatoes and continue as recipe.

YUGOSLAVIAN CEVAPCICI

1 lb. ground lamb, pork or veal
1 lb. ground chuck
1 egg, beaten
5-6 drops Tabasco
1 tsp. marjoram
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. paprika
1 lg. clove garlic, crushed
3-4 tbsp. beef broth or bouillon

Combine all ingredients; blend well. Form into finger shaped sausages about 3/4" thick and 4" long. Cook slowly until well browned on a charcoal grill. Turn sausages often. Sausages should be brown on the outside and slightly pink on the inside. According to tradition, these sausages are served on a bed of chopped onions, with tiny hot peppers, mixed vegetables and bread. http://www.egourmetstore.com/recipes/sho...
