Absolutely. My mother used to soak the cake with sherry!!I like it with jelly poured onto the fruit before the custard.
A really great, traditionally made trifle, is scrummy. Of course it does need the addition of some alcohol, preferably sweet sherry, just to finish it off.

Lets not forget that if it was a true tradional French dish it would be praised all around the world as being something truly French, therefore a gastranomic delight.

The proof of this is the importance of custard in trifle. We call it custard, the French call it Creme Anglaise.

If it's called Creme Anglaise, it is a French gastronomic wonder. If it's called custard, it's some other sh.t the Brits eat. Same stuff, different country of origin. So stupid.

Another example, chips in English, or pomme de terra frites.

Oh well

EDIT:- Mark, you go for it darling and make a really great one. And remember, if it was French it would be an international gastronomic delight. Kisses for you darling
i love it!!!
trifle is a dessert dish made from thick (or often solidified) custard, fruit, sponge cake, fruit juice or, more recently, jelly (gelatin), and whipped cream. These ingredients are usually arranged in layers with fruit and sponge on the bottom, and custard and cream on top.

Some trifles contain a small amount of alcohol such as port, or, most commonly, sweet sherry or madeira wine. Non-alcoholic versions use fruit juice instead, as the liquid is necessary to moisten the cake. Trifle containing sherry is sometimes called 'sherry trifle' or referred to as being 'High Church'.

One popular trifle variant has the sponges soaked in jelly (liquid-gelatin dessert) when the trifle is made, which sets when refrigerated. The cake and jelly bind together and produce a uniquely pleasant texture if made in the correct proportions (there should not be too much jelly added, or nucleation will not occur).

Some supermarkets sell 'chocolate trifle' which is not really trifle at all. A trifle cannot be composed of chocolate layers as it must contain fruit and jelly
I was given 6 trifle dishes when I left home, just what every single guy needs! I've still not had occasion to invite 5 friends back to use them , my offers are quite coolly received by chicks at the disco. I'm afraid trifle has been rather overtaken by jelly snakes and sherbert flying saucers these days.
i love it
yes
Just a trifle.
I have a really sweet tooth and love desserts but im not actually that keen on trifle. I would much prefer to have something chocolaty or a pie/tart/crumble etc
nope dont really like the creamy texture.
Yes. Very much.
Only if its home made and in an individual serving, otherwise it looks like a bowl of vomit.
