California Roll Blues?!
I've come to creative ways of making homemade rice balls, yakisoba, and sushi rolls in my own kitchen. However I crave to make a decent California roll.
My problem: I don't trust the artificial crab bits that I know I'm suppose to use. I've tried to make the filling with the artificial crab and it tasted awful.
Is there any brand of artificial crab someone could recommend? Or any recipes for a California roll filling?
Much Obliged.
Answers: I love sushi. Let me get that out of the way first.

Trans Ocean, Crab Classic, leg style. Dont use chunks, use leg style. Sits where you put it before you roll it and tastes great. Crab, cucumber sticks, shaved carrot, avocado and a dynamite sauce. I cant roll them fast enough with guests over to the house. And you can roll it inside out and add black sesame seeds to the outside. Just toast the seeds for a couple of minutes in a hot, dry pan to bring out their flavor.
Costco makes good california rolls.
Use real crab. If you can get it fresh, thats great. Frozen can also work. Use the canned version if you can't get the others. And if you must, mix a little mayo in it.
