Looking for a possible Vietnamese snack recipe -- looks like pink pork skins??!


Question: When i was in 5 grade my best friends mom always made me some of these -- i have no clue what they were called or what exactly they were but i loved them --- they were pink and it looked like pork skins and they popped and crackled in my mouth.. I would love to know what they are called and how to make them..

I am a former chef and what you thought was a pink pork skin actually was a shrimp crackers, you get them at an Asian grocery store, they are dirt cheap, when I was a chef I would buy a box and take them to work just to amaze the staff.

They come in a blue box with a picture of a big red shrimp on the box, when you open it you will find what looks like pink clear coins, when you add these to hot fat they expand into the crunchy chips that resemble the pork rinds here in Canada and the U.S.

They do not taste like shrimp at all, and are made with a broth from shrimp shells and thicken with tapioca starch, it is then rolled into cylinders, dried then saw cut into the coin shape. I saw it being made in Thailand and we use them in Singapore,and I have seen them on Chinese restaurant menus here in Toronto Canada, they charge a couple of bucks for them, I buy a box with 30-50 pieces at the Chinese grocery stores for 99 cents???
It's probably some kind of sausage (or whatever) i don't really know!!!!
