Hominy substitute in pesole?!

Question: I want to make this soup but I live in a country where I can't find hominy anywhere! Can I substitute it with something else? Hopefully something that is more widely available. Muchos gracias in advance!

White Hominy is also known as Maiz Blanco or White Corn.

This is the main ingredient in Pozole.

I'm sorry but to substitute it really wouldn't be the same , but if you must you can try beans and or Potatoes , just forget about calling it Pozole.

It be nice to know where you live , then maybe we could send you to the right place to buy a Can of White Hominy , If you can go to a Large Fruit and Vegetable store or try an Hispanic Ethnic Store , you would be surprised at some of the other stores that sell it too , you just have to look.

Goya foods , La Preferida , are two name brands , but I'm sure theres more.

Hey I like Luke's answer below , that would be the next best thing , I wish I would've thought of that.

Sorry for the mispelling. I don't speak Spanish so I didn't realize I spelt it wrongly. OK I get it...it's POZOLE. Didn't mean to offend anyone. Report It

  • Pesole without hominy? You really are in a pickle.
Since hominy is made from corn my only suggestion would be to use whole kernel corn as a sub.

MAKE A MOLE INSTEAD I'M SURE THERE'S PLENTY OF CHILES YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE .
but if your set on pozole then soak some dried corn for a day and bring to a simmer the next-let cool and rub off the husk (same as making -grits ) and you got the hominey or pozole,grano,maiz,etc.etc.

You really cant substitute the Hominy in the Pozole, but the closest things that has a similar taste in my opinoin is Garbanzo Beans.

its POZOLE not PESOLE and you want to substitute hominy well you are shi't out luck and you can use white corn or gabanzo beans but its not going to taste the same.
