Why does kugel have a starchy taste?!

Question: Yesterday I saw what Alberton's had all the Jewish food on sale. I bought potato kugel....which I have never heard of. Today I made it, and the first few bites were awesome! Then all of the sudden I started to get this funny taste...like cold McDonal's french fries. My mouth had a bitter feeling, it was horrible!! The kugel was so good....but then turned SOOO bad.

Why did this happen?? What could I do to fix this? What about eating it with salad? Will that cut down on the nasty feeling in the mouth? Is it because I bought instant kugel? If I made it from scratch, would it be better?

it happens usually with boxed/processed potatoes. for some reason the starch taste from the potato starch is very intensified by the processing. if you did make it from scratch it would take better. we make a dish similar called kugelis ( i think that's how it is spelled) it has eggs, onions, and finely grated potaoes like kugel, but it also has bacon. you can omit bacon. we like it hot out of oven served with a big dollop of sour cream

I dont know about the potato kugel, but noodle kugel is the flippin BOMB.........

It happened because you didn't make this simple recipe from scratch but bought either a mix or purchased it ready made.
