Rice has a high glucose (sugar) content. So, technically it is faintly sweet. If anything though, cooked rice tends to be bland. There IS a Japanese style rice that is both sticky & on the sweet side.

No, rice is NOT sweet. The reason why chewing makes it taste sweet is that starch is broken down by salivary amylase into maltose. This happens with other starches too (like wheat) but rice starch is the easiest to break down.

Glutinous rice is not sweet either, but called sweet rice because of its usage in sweet Asian foods. Sweeteners are added.

If you are speaking of the rice (Type) then "Sweet Rice" is not "Short, long , medium, or Arborio"rice. Did i understand your question? or were you speaking colloquially?

It's nigh in starchy carbohydrates, but not really sweet.

If you have a recipe that calls for "sweet rice", that is a special type of rice. It's not "plain" rice. Here's more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glutinous_r...
