This is embarrassing, but I miss Japanese steak. Can you help me?!


Question: For a short, beautiful time, I had a Japanese girlfriend. Oh, how I regret losing her. I think of her almost every day, more than 13 years after our time together.

What's embarrassing is that I want to know how to make a steak she made me one night. Look, it's not that I remember her cooking. It's her I miss. But it was the most delicious steak I ever had in my life.

She made it on the stove top. It had shoyu (with probably other things, maybe sugar and or mirin, among others) and carrots. That's it. She pan fried it in this shoyu mixture with carrots. It is not because I still desperately remember her, she was VERY good at cooking.

Can someone help me relive this past glory? I am still sad about not marrying her.

Japanese (Wafū) steak sauce is made from,shoyu, sake, mirin. It seems sugar is not used. It's popular to add Japanese white radish (daikon) or onion. And of cource salt and pepper is added. Meat itself possibly made in Japan, not other countries'.

My Japanese friend would marinate a thick steak overnight in this sauce.

Shoyu, 1/2 cup
water 1 cup
brown sugar 1 tablespoon'
ginger 1teaspoon dried ground ...less fresh
pepper
no salt

place steak in shallow container marinate overnight make sure liquid covers steak .. add a little water and shoyu if necessary.

At cooking time slice carrot ans green onion on diagonal thinly.
wash some snow peas

Make new batch of sauce

Heat deep skillet or wok

Sear steak
add sauce and carrots. cook until carrots are tender add snow peas cook 3 minutes more.

Turn off heat . let set a few minutes Slice steak on diagonal serve with rice and and cherry tomatoes.
