How is it safe to eat raw fish (sashimi) without getting sick from it?!

Answers: Similar to the way food is cooked at a high temp some food can be cooked in the opposite temp-----deep freezing. The fda requires sushi grade raw fish to be deep frozen to a certain low temp for a certain amount of time. I do not know the numbers. When u go to the butcher and ask for sushi grade fish, that is what u r asking for. The dangerous bacterias r killed in extreme temps high or low. So in a way it is cooked but I would not eat it lol yuck. Also in certain cultures they will cook foods (specifically fish) in vinegar @ room temp. I do not believe it is legal in the US 2 sell it that way (thank God). I could not tell u if that technique is so effective but it is the traditional preperation of seveche. To stay safe, stick 2 the sushi grade stuff

Eat it with wasabi. It's a subsitute for an andidotes.
in japan, those raw fishes are fresh so not much harm...once the fish is old or take a long time to arrive, dontchu dare eat it raw. basically, as long as its fresh (jst came outta water), yu dont really get sick
It's perfectly safe. A real sushi chef works for an average of 20 years before he earns the title. Raw (fresh) is very delicious. Shoyu with a little wasabi -- heaven.
If you go to a good restaurant where lots of people go, it is fine. I worked at a such a Japanese restaurant and they get top qulaity and keep in pristine condition.
Now, if you go to a cheap corner shop, especially one that doesn't have a high turnover, you might be asking for trouble. Most people are safe but those with compromised immune systems (old, babies, sick) could get fish fluke (parasite) that cause various problems but a visit to drs and some meds help.
*Really the worst it will effect most, is like that woman who had a pork taco in mexico (undercooked meat) and came back sick and with a worm coming out her nose in the bath. Some rare cases might get seizures as worm gets in brain and dies, but rarely, have I ever heard someone die.
But you're talking about fish. Just go to good places with many diners. In general, you'll be fine, even if there were fish fluke, you'd pass it with your healthy immune and digestion. Your acids would kill and your system would purge in toilet.
Fish need to be extremely fresh and from a known source. After that there's no problems
Just make sure that the fish is fresh.
Caught that day, or fresh frozen.
If you're getting the whole fish, look at
the eyes and make sure that it isn't couldy.
You want the eyes to be clear.
