Cooking in the UK?!

Question: The guy downstairs has been at it for 45 minutes now, banging pots and pans and slamming doors and dropping things and producing a foul smell.
I had a look and he's trying to cook two very evil smelling sausages and boiling some milk. Are there people like this only in the UK or are there other parts of the world where people are so bad at cooking? And why are such foul smelling sausages even allowed to be sold? Aren't we what we eat?

Hi, there.

Poor you! I know what you mean!

In the UK we've had a couple of decades of advertisers and marketing men pushing the lifestyle message. We've had an equal amount of time of TV celebrity chefs selling us French or Mediterranean cuisine, organic cuisine, farmers' market products and so on!

But still some British people don't get it and survive on appalling food.

I suspect that this may have something to do with the fact that Britain (one of the first, if not the first nation to industrialize) has long lost its contact with the soil and people have no idea where their food comes from and how long it takes to grow it or raise it.
