Too long for my liking

since the nineteen century...

ummmmyummmy!!!!

I think the Italians who came here in the 18c started it off, but they wouldn't eat the rubbish we get here. I would rather cook my own now .

Since the 19th century I think.

As far as I know, it dates back to biblical times, since Christians are not really allowed meat on a Friday. You can still see people queuing up at the local chippy every Friday night. I swear that's what it's all about. Only, they have chicken and curry sauce instead nowadays, and mushy peas. =oD

The early 19th century supposedly is when the Fish and Chips trade began, but it became popular because it was inexpensive and therefore affordable.

The early trend of not eating meat on Fridays originated because of this also...a financial consideration of local fishermen.

Along with the history of fish and chips comes the colourful history of the fish and chip shop. The first fish and chip shop in the North of England is thought to hove opened in Mossley near Oldham, Lancashire, around 1863. Mr Lees sold fish and chips from a wooden hut in the market and later he transferred the business to a permanent shop across the road which had the following inscription in the window "This is the first fish and chip shop in the world." But in London, Joseph Malin opened a fish end chip shop in Cleveland Street within the sound of Bow Bells 13 in 1860. There are now around 8,100 fish and chip shops across the UK that, eight for every one McDonalds outlet.

Since the mid 19th century and nutritionally compared to other take away food it's the best.

I know they had Fish and chip shops during the wars
I think i read somewhere that it was the only food not rationed.
I don't know if its true though
