Just opened a vacuum sealed bag of sesame seeds many years old. Should it have a slightly 'rancid' taste?!

Question: I did taste them but the rancid taste dissapeared. Is this a normal taste?

Answers: I did taste them but the rancid taste dissapeared. Is this a normal taste?

No dear, they are old. Toss them out

No. Throw it away.

Throw them out. Buy new ones.

Sesame seeds contain a lot of oil and it does go bad. they don't keep that long. I'd toss them.

the vacuum seal bags are to prolong the life of something, but not forever. i wouldn't eat it, if it is several years old.

that's nasty. i don't care if it is in a "sealed" bag, dont' eat anything years old!

If it tastes rancid and is several years old, then it's probably bad. Throw it away! :o)

Rancid is never good, that means bad oil somewhere... I wouldnt trust it.

packaged seeds are only good for a few months, they rot like any other living thing.

Because of their oil content, sesame seeds have a shelf life of about two years if stored tightly capped in a cool, dry place or in the refrigerator.

It's no good! it should never taste rancid!

The unsaturated oils in nuts and whole grains go 'rancid' over time. Exposure to light and variation in heat accellerate the process, but 6 months or so is about as long as something like that keeps.

not normal, throw them out

rancidity is how fats break down, either from oxygen, heat, or age. discard them.

No.

No. The oil in the seeds is rancid. Throw it out and try again with new.

The key here is "several years old', toss them out!

Toss them, sesame seeds have a high oil content that can cause them to go rancid very quickly (like sesame seed oil). Next time, store them in the refrigerator. They will last a long long time! The taste is neutral, slightly nutty flavor.

Toss 'em and get 2 bags of sesame seeds. One for immediate use and the other -- you can preserve it for 5-10 years -- just like the time capsules :)

throw them out, IMMEDIATELY
