Do you think canned food is bad?!

Question: Are there any other methods of packaging, that are safer.

Answers: Are there any other methods of packaging, that are safer.

You can get used to anything but when you stop eating canned food, after a while when you go back to it it will taste pretty foul, in the same way as when you stop eating supermarket foods, after a while only the smell simply smells bad.

I get this every time I spend a few months in Italy, eating only genuine farm foods, when I get back to the UK and smell the food here it smells so unhealthy it's unbelievable.
But then I do get back to it and I get used to it, but yes, in a perfect world it shouldn't be eaten.

yes

I don't have any scientific evidence, but I think it is.
And... it tastes awful. Nothing is better than fresh food.

not really.. it's a tried and true method for food storage.

of course, fresh food is better.

How about fresh food from a farmer's market? There is just no comparison, the only exception would be frozen peas (fresh peas are not easily available in the US).

i guess it depends on what it is, really. and fresh would be a better option.

not completely, it depends which one it is!

i think that can food is very safe. it has a long shelf life. if the can top can be pressed and it bounces or makes a noise, then it has expired and no good.
for taste, i do not like can carrots and sliced potatoes, no taste and mushy. all other types of canned goods are great....

It depend on what is in the can. Tomatoes for instance is a fruit/veggie that you cant get year around. Fortunately that hold up very well during canning Some other veggies such as Peas are better frozen.

I think canned food serves a purpose like when i need to pack food to go camping, picnicking, fishing and any outdoor activity away from commercial areas. These would be infrequent not on a daily basis so consuming sardines, tuna, spam, soups would not be in great amount - therefore not bad at all. They come in handy.

It is only 'bad' when consuming on a regular basis at home for instnace due to the processing, ingredients for preserving which are not health conducive. But a can or two of tomatoes, soups a couple of times a week is neglible - it is not harmful at all.

Packing food in other ways other than metal is possible but restricted to curry and sauce preparations; these do not have long expiry date unlike canned food.

I still continue to enjoy Hormel's Spam, Campbell Soups, Sardines in tomato sauce - there are days when you want something easy, available at home to eat.

Canned food - as a process of keeping food last longer - is not bad. It is sealed airtight. The food inside canned food these days though may be "bad" - as in - NOT as healthy - because they tend to have a lot of salt in them.

There is a story of canned meat found in the antarctic left there for over 50 years - they opened it and it was still good enough to eat.
