Does Israel have a national dish?!


Question: For example, most people identify hamburgers and hot dogs as American, or relate spaghetti to Italian - what is Israel's signature dish? What foods make Israel unique to the Middle East, or is all the cuisine pretty much the same? Just curious...thanks for your answers. :)

It is a toss up between FALAFEL or Hummus....
but I would say falafel is number one! : )

I was ALWAYS under the impression it was smoked fish - lox, smoked salmon; whitefish; chubs; kippered salmon, smoked sturgeon, etc.

AND kugel - a noodle pudding.

I found the same answer with the other ..the most popular to emerge from the mediterrannean and middle east regions is HUMMUS AXOTIC blend of pursed chickpeas, lemon, sesame tahini, oil and spices with added flavor such as garlic roasted red peppers, scallion and dill. Hummus pronounced (hummes) is traditionally used as a dip with pita bread, crackers or fresh cut veggies. It absolutely delicious, but it myst be home made to be really good. It sounds good of this israel traditional dish, we can try it to prepare.My country asia we prepare spaghetti asiatici with lot of vegetable and carne, bread and pineapple drink.
