Rice is a carb and in general not the healthiest. But in countries like India & China, dirt cheap and a little goes a long way. 2-3 cups of rice can feed 6 people easily (they eat much less and smaller portions in India/China).

Best tasting: basmati & jasmine

(any asian mkt will be inexpensive, but large grocery stores also carry both types)

Most nutricious: brown rice, wild rice and red rice
(these you can buy at any organic/health food store but are more $ and are an acquired taste)

its about how you grow it and what kind of rice you grow.
really does not have much to do with the country it comes from.
chinese people eat rice more for cultural preference than anytihng else.

that is silly
the rice has a DNA that controls "it's" development,, what difference China - USA..???
NOW think - - unless you know your bodies exact needs for vitamins and minerals what the "Q" difference would it make..

I am Chinese and i've been eating rice for years. First of all, Chinese rice and American rice are pretty much the same because they are all white rice. Asian white rice is only little bit healthier because asian don't put spices or salt to cook rice like American do. All white rice have very high carbohydrate which will effect blood glucose levels quickly. Brown rice, calrose rice and jasmine rice are not very nutritional due to the high sugar level per serving. My mother has high blood sugar, which is result of eating rice 3 times a day (she doesn't eat sweet food). If you want to eat rice that is healthier, choose Basmati rice, wild rice and doongara rice. What is even more nutritional is whole grain rice which include Bulgur, spelt, barley...etc Of course whole grain does not taste as good as others. Amazon and bulkfood sell those rice. Hope this info helps.

Rice is rice it's the same rice.

Chinese typically eat long grain rice. The reason they eat rice three times a day is that what they have available, it's filling, inexpensive and they're used to it (sort of like the Irish and potatoes).

Best tasting rice - basmati and jasmine rice are fragrant and has more flavor.

For nuttier tasting rice and more nutritious, brown rice is good.

Also, there are different types of rice besides long grain. Medium grain and short grain rice cook up stickier and stay soft even when refrigerated, unless long grain rice. This type of rice is used in sushi and is quite popular in Japanese and Korean cuisine.

Long grain rice is the healthiest among rices (assuming you compare only white rice) because it has a lower glycemic load. All rices are high in starch and contain little to no sugar, but short grain rice starch is rapidly converted to sugar by the body's enzymes.
I would say Indian basmati is the healthiest white rice. It is also one of the longest.

But all of these pale in comparision to brown (whole grain) rice. Any brown rice, even short grain, is healthy.
