Do Adults Usually Crave the Food They Had as Children?!
My love for milk gravy and biscuits leads me to believe that the food we love best is the food we had when we were kids. Do you feel the same, or have your taste buds changed with adulthood?
Answers: My mother made milk gravy every meal. Try as I might, I can't get mine to taste like hers. She used to brown that flour until it was almost burnt, then pour in the milk and...voila! I just get lumps.

My taste buds HAVE changed in that I'm not as finicky as I was when I was a kid & appreciate a much wider variety of foods & tastes... HOWEVER...
Yes-Yes-Yes... I do really miss foods I ate as a kid. Somethings aren't made anymore as the companies that suppied the product is no longer in business.
Other things were made by relatives that are now dead & gone. My great grandma made everything from scratch. I've been trying to get my grandma to pass on her favorite recipes she used to make when she could still cook. i think it is so important to preserve our history.
My old bosses mom knew the recipe for this awesome applecrisp we had in elementary school. Bottom crust with top crumbles as she was a school cook. He kept promising me he would get the recipe for me... sadly she's gone now...& so are all her recipes she made from memory.
There was a dairy company in my hometown that made the best cottage cheese I have ever tasted in my life. The dairy was called Broughton's. I have never forgotten the taste of that cottage cheese, and I have tried over the years, to find another brand that tasted the same. To no avail. *sm*
my taste buds are the same as when i was lttle and i have to say they got alot better for the things i hated when i was little. You dont whip up the mixture well enough thats why it gets lumpy.
my mother and my grandparents made the best pizza from scratch. my grandparents came from sicily. so it is their recipe. i always crave that pizza and have learned to make it well. i make it for my children now. it is a family tradition. it just isn't the same when i buy it from the pizzaria. i still like to make the sauce i learned to make from my family when i was 12 yrs old. and, it just doesn't feel like christmas without the lasagne.
uhh...no. But I love her sweets, and I still eat my moms food so no room for craving.
Yes. It'll bring back sweet memories. I think about my grandparents when I see food that they used to cook and give me. Grandparents are cool!
I'm only 18 but I read your question and thought I'd give you a tip on your milk gravy.
Heat the milk up while your heating up the flour. This doesn't affect the temperature of the mixture (as both the milk and flour are both hot) and then whisk it like crazy.
This should help you.

Yes, they do! Certain dishes brings back childhood memories (it's known as comfort foods). The term comfort food refers to a style of familiar, simple food or drink that is usually home-cooked, or consumed in informal restaurants.
Comfort food is typically inexpensive, uncomplicated, and easy to prepare. Many people turn to comfort food for familiarity, emotional security, or special reward/treat. The reasons a dish becomes a comfort food are diverse but often include pleasant associations of childhood. Adults eat comfort food for a sense of continuity.
Various foods or beverages could fill the urge for a comfort food depending on a person's taste, but in any given culture or cuisine there are foods that become universally accepted comfort foods.
Adult taste buds are definitely more refined and sophisticated than a child's but every once in awhile everyone (at least in the US), will crave a pb&j sandwich or mac & cheese.
I like many things I had as a child though my taste buds have matured and have become more demanding as an adult.
