What is the thing in your pantry that is a staple??that your family?!

Question: must have either as a snack or meal?

Answers: must have either as a snack or meal?

Hmm, well I always have "Capellini" pasta on hand. It cooks in minutes, I can break it up into soup noodles and my kids like it "white" with olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan!!

I make "pastina" a lot with that too, italian soup, throw an egg in with the noodles and Knorr's chicken soup powder. Swiss chard in soup is amazing too.

Tuna is another staple, and mackerel and sardines, boneless of course, served with olives, a dash of oil and some fresh italian bread. My kids love that. I always buy corn tortilla chips, with salsa and cream cheese and always have frozen shredded cheese in the freezer, and the kids always make one version or another of either melted cheese tortillas, or cream cheese and salsa heated up and scooped with tortillas. I try not to have junk or salty foods around That's a treat for the weekend. I want them to snack healthily during the week cause they really don't eat much at school or for breakfast during the week.

Another favourite during the week is a can of ham mashed with cream cheese/green onions/dash of horseradish and fresh parsley, served with triscuits. Or a round loaf of fresh pumpernickel halved, scooped and filled with spinach dip. The purchased brands from Costco are usually pretty good although I prefer to make my own with fat free sour cream as they use mayo and who knows what other stuff...too fattening.

If you knew how much my kids ate you would understand why those are "snacks" LOL They could plow through 4 bags of chips in one night so no way. Salt is not something we DO in this family.

So you see FOOD in general is a staple in our house....LOL

Nothing

I guess my family are really the ethnic mutts of America. We steal what's good from every culture

pasta, pasta and more pasta

Cheese crackers w/peanut butter.

CEREAL! Also, pasta, soup, mac & cheese, crackers, chips, cookies, peanut butter, nutella, rice....

rice or potatoes

Buns & chips

Rice and beans. I can make a lot of different meals from those.

One thing? Oh, peanut butter. Can't live without it or we fight... "did you eat the last of the peanut butter? Well then replace it!"

canned tuna/canned chicken

Don't have a pantry, never had a pantry, just cupboards filled with all sorts of stuff. And the only snack I sneak once in a while is Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, with 3 Musketeers torn up on top of that with hot chocolate syrup too. Gotta have those calories once in a while!!!

Popcorn.....

Staples are basic items used to make things to eat, e.g. sugar, rice, oil, herbs and spices, vinegars, flour, lentils, pasta, and it goes on. It's the stuff you should always have on hand.

pita bread

Staples are not snacking materials - they are your basic raw materials used for (everyday) cooking such as beans, rice, pasta, potatoes, canned foods maybe.....

The kinds of stuffs that we always have around that we may want to snack on might be nori, sardines, cheese, saltines, fruit, salami....

rice and season-all spice.
