Anyone got any asian steam boat recipes?!


Question: There are many ways to prepare for a steamboat but I will share with you what my family is using

Soup
-------
In a huge pot put in chicken bones or broth and add in cut carrots, corns, one glove of garlics, some dried red dates (soak and seeds removed) and let it boil until the vegetables are soft. Transfer the soup, carrots and corns into the pot for steam boat. Discard the garlics
Add shallot oil for more fragrance soup.
Beat an egg and add into soup when boiling
Add salt to taste

Chillies - Hainanese Chicken rice chillie dips for six
-------------
8 red chillies
4 garlics or more according to your liking
1 medium size ginger
1/4 bowl of shallot oil (optional)
half bowl of lime juice
Pound the chillies, garlics and ginger together to form a paste and add a little salt.
A little chicken broth
Add shallot oil and lime juice to mix.

Crispy shallots for soups
----------------------------------
Thinly slice shallots and using medium heat to fry until the onions turn light brown. Do not over fry the shallots otherwise it will turn slightly bitter when it is dark brown.
Remove shallots from the oil.
Retain the oil and use it for the chillies dip and soup.
Add the crispy shallots into the soup before cooking the ingredients.

Ingredients - to your liking
--------------------
1) Fishballs
2) Cabbage - cut into smaller pieces
3) White Mu-Er (white fungus mushrooms) - soak until soft and cut
4) Black Mu-Er (black fungus mushrooms) - soak until soft and cut
5) Enoki mushrooms
6) Fresh prawns with shells intact. Head removed. Rinsed
7) Squids - marinate with a little salt and pepper for about 15mins or more
8) Crabs
9) Sliced beef - marinade with some egg white, some soya sauce and pepper for at least one hour
10) Toufu
11) Quail eggs, hard boiled and deshell
12) Sliced abalone or pacific clams
Add any other vegetables that you may like.

You can serve the steamboat with rice or chinese noodles according to your liking.

oh yum steam boat....im from singapore but now live in Australia and every wednesday night was steamboat night at our house...oh god i miss it soo much! i think its bout time i went back for a visit!

Basically, steamboat broth in Asia cook be made from boiled chicken / pork, some use herbs to go with it (you can buy the ready packed from your nearby Chinese mart)

Ingredients usually depends on your choice and liking,
Chinese Cabbage
Sliced Meat
Seafood
(throw in whatever you like to let it cook for better flavor)

Best ingredient for Asian steamboat is people, the more company you have the tastier the food esp. for steamboat which is commonly eat in reunion dinner.
