I was married once (well, I WAS) and my wife came from another country. She told me that shortly after she got here someone introduced her to cheesecake. She'd never had anything so good. She gained weight. What most Americans simply are unable to appreciate is that of the 7 billion people on earth, not even 1 billion have it as good as we do. I'm not talking starvation or drought ridden countries or anything like that. Countries that do not even chart as poor don't live as high as we do. So sometimes they lose control here. A LITTLE compassion for them please. What we don't even THINK about to many are things of incredible luxury.

It wasnt the food, it was the advertizing

umm depends?

yes definitely we do have some food out there that causes all that and we are the fattest country lol

I do believe American food does tend to be more fattening, I have seen my fair share of foreign exchange students come in thin and leave a bit heavier. But, we also have a lot more fast food services and we eat in a rush generally. So, our eating habits have a little bit more to do with the weight gain in my opinion.

No, it was her choice of what foods to eat and lack of excersise that made her fat.

no it was the woman who chose to eat like an american

I think that we have easier access to fast food or just about any other store to buy food and that could cause a person from a different country to eat more often or just about anyone. I also think that it would have to be the persons choice whether or not to pigout.

Many years go by so her metabolism has slowed w--a--y down. Fattening high calorie food and little exercise. Has nothing to do with living here. She made her choices.

I agree...eat crappy food + absolutely no exercise = a fatty...period!

You can't blame the food. She chooses what she eats and how much!

maybe she overloaded on her food eg maybe there was not much food to be had where she lived before.

It's a combination of factors: poor diet, no exercise, poor metabolism, genetics, portion control, availability, discipline, advertising....

In many countries, people walk alot. Even in the US, if you visit NYC (esp Manhattan) --- people are thin because they walk alot. They eat wonderful delicious food but they walk and walk and walk.....

Well ... when in Rome, do as Romans, right? She probably started eating like most Americans.
The thing is, healthy food is more expensive and less available than junk food. Junk food is all over!! Wherever you turn there is a vending machine.
Also the size of the servings!!! I can never finish the plate!!
The soda is another big problem in USA. That thing is full of sugar and therefore full of calories.
Ketchup has too much sugar also and Americans like to use Ketchup in lots of things.
The list of things is longer, but at home we always say that in USA even the water is fattening.
