Whats that black line on the back of a shrimp?!

Question: I DO NOT eat shrimp, nor any other sea food, I think its discusting. But I was looking at my mans shrimp one day, and he had peeled the breading off of one, and there was a black line down the back of it. He said that it was poop, and he seemed serious, but is it true?Seems kind of gross...Maybe theres a reason I dont eat the stuff!!!

It is called the intestinal vein and alltho it does contain waste and grit it is mainly removed because of it appearance. So technically it is poop. :)

I think it's the shrimps pooh. Excretion. Crap. U get the idea. =D ^^

it's a vein

i dont think u want to know the answer to that....poop!
and seafood is great......u should try it....

POOP!!!

-Your friend was pulling your leg, it's a vein!

That would be the poop vein!

It's the shrimp's intestines. When it "deveined" that means they made a teeny tiny slit in the shrimp and "cleaned" it out...yes it's poo and other digestive matter. They can also stave the shrimp before it goes to the store...these shrimp come from "fish farms" and the like...and by starving it they elimate any digestive matter the shrimp would normally have. OH...by the way...the only shrimp that didn't come from the fish farms are the grey ones.....shrimp in the "wild" aren't pink in color...the pink ones are dyied that color because it's more appealing to eat...can be natual or man made dyes... YUMMY!
