White rice can be unhealthy if you eat over half a cup or more. Whether it be white or parboil, it's not too nutritious due to too much starch which in turn break down to sugar.

How much is too expensiver for brown rice, I don't find it that expensive if you go to your local grocery stores. Typical it's comes in a small bag or Uncle Ben's box.

Now if you want to eat healthy and not worry about the price, go with the black or dark (almost black) rice. It takes some trial and error to cook it, but worth it when you get it right. It has less carbohydrate when eaten and less starch. You may shop in an ethnic market to get it, but it doesn't break the bank if your watching what you eat.

Plain organic white rice if you can't get brown rice.

Black Rice is good for you and it is high in fibre and protien; it is tasty too.

wild rice, saffron rice.

Brown rice is not expensive if you consider how much more nutrients you recieve by eating the whole grain. Polishing rice takes away most of the B vitamins. I do not notice that much of a price difference if you buy the old fashioned bagged rice instead of the boxed convenient rice. Wild rice is very expensive if you buy the rice that is not cultivated, especially with the drought this summer. Wild rice, actually a grass, harvested by sticks and canoes in lakes is probably the most nutritious rice of all. The only difference between the parboiled white rice and the dried is convenience, parboiled cooks faster. There is a difference in length of the rice. Long-grain rice tends to cook in separate grains and is fluffy. Short-grain rice cooks tender and moist, useful in puddings, etc. Specialty rice such as Basmati which has a nutty taste and smells like popcorn is fun to try. Arborio rice is from Italy and is used to make the creamy risottos.

If you're concerned about health,,,then brown rice...if you're concerned with cost...then get it at your local warehouse foods in bulk...it's cheaper that way
