Why can't immigrants make proper chips?!

Question: 4 chippies near me (2-chinese, 1-middle east, and 1-of indeterninate origin) do not seem to understand that a chip is a golden brown stalk almost as crisp as a stick of celery. Instead we get a limp soggy effort that seems like it is made from mashed potato and done in a microwave for twenty minutes. Do you know of a chippie that makes real chips in the northwest.

wooo there matey!! Do agree with you many immigrants don't make 'em like us. But the only thing I don't agree on, the old China-men do make a good chip. Well round my way, but then again only a southern softey who doesn't have 'em with gravey

You get my vote for 'question of the century'.

Brilliant.

Don't know about that-chjippies round our way have Poles behind the counter and they make great chips.

Your question is a bit harsh on immigrants, don't you think.

Erm...coz they are immigrants, they probably can cook their own food better than english dishes...maybe you should invest in a deepfryer.

that was an incredibly ignorant question.

hahaha that is great I was just having the same conversation with my g/f last week. brilliant!

If it wasn't for immigrants, the UK wouldn't have a single chip shop! The Turks in my local cook a very mean chip, much better than my mum's true-brit soggy efforts...

well if you dont like it go to an english one then!

or make your own!

go to quebec, have a poutine, its the only place where chips are supposed to soggy with gravy and cheese.

Fantastic question!

I suppose it has to do with the chip being an English delicacy when cooked correctly. Many English people cant cook them either though for a bit of balance to the question.

Simple. Look at the packaging. Is it enclosed? I bet it is.

Hot food gives off steam which makes things soggy and uncrispy. The chips (or fries) bought in McD's etc aren't in a enclosed state so that's why you always get crispy chips. I'll bet you anyway money that you also find that fish and chips shop also produce the same.
