I didn't learn until I spent 2 weeks in China about 6 years ago. I had no choice but to learn.
Try this:

Make a peace sign
Now take one chopstick and place it in the fatty part between your thumb and index finger.
Now take the other and place it between you index and middle finger. This is the one that actually moves. The other one just stays pretty static.
Practice with this and I'll bet you'll get the hang of it. People try to move both sticks but that's a waste.
Those cheap paper wrapped, break apart chops are a good way to start as the rough, absorbent surface makes it easy to grab things. The smooth, polished styles take a bit more work.
practice with dry foods then work your way into more slick ones.
Hope this helps

yeah i can use chopsticks! I'm really good at using them to! i like using chopsticks instead of forks when eating noodles..

Are you asian?
It is naturally easier for asians to use chopsticks.
And you shouldn't have a tight grip on chopsticks.
The chopsticks have to be align like this... <
the point where they intersect is where the ends of your chopstick intersect
the outer lines are the chopsticks.
Try practicing everyday!
I'm korean and I had a hard time using chopsticks.
But my dad taught me and now I can do it perfectly!

I can somewhat with a teeny tiny bit of cheating (hehe) my 4 yr old sis is better than me

Yes I use them with stir fry and noodles.

I can't either

Yes i can use chopsticks.......i use it sometimes like when i order chinese food or something like that.....but now,i am trying to use chopsticks for eating rice like chinese people........xD

ya

I lived in Japan for 2 years, so I learned how to use them very well. I don't like those cheap ones they have in asian restaurants though. I can see why they would put someone off them.

Yes, I can use chopsticks. The bottom chopstick should remain stationary lying on your ring finger, while the top one you hold like a pencil. You should bring them to a point and be able to eat fine with them. It will take a little practice, but is very simple when you get used to it.

I'm not very good with chopsticks and I won't even bother with them when I'm really hungry...I go straight for my fork!

I ended up trying to go native in a place where that's the way they eat. It turns out, some of them are pretty clumsy with chopsticks. Everybody gets a laugh out of it, but you gotta eat.

They taught me how to do it right. Hold one chopstick between your thumb and forefinger. That's the chopstick you move. The other one is supposed to stay still. You keep that one braced against your middle finger, right behind the knuckle that's located behind the part of your finger that has a fingernail. Usually I prefer to eat with a fork, but eating Oriental noodles with a fork is a sin. It just doesn't taste right.

Where I was, everybody used stainless steel chopsticks to look modern. At home when nobody was looking, I used wooden chopsticks made from bamboo. I bought them back in the USA at a Vietnamese store. Much better.

no i used to try when the kids were still teenagers but i couldnt do it then & i have not tried for ages

Yes...I have some pretty serious chopstick skills!

My uncle taught me when I was 10. I practiced on popcorn, french fries, spaghetti. Keep it up and you'll do fine. When you can eat runny scrambled eggs, you're there. Try picking up a dime flat on the table in between meals.

Amy -- you're KIDDING me. Naturally easier for Asians???? Are you nuts???

it's not hard to use chopsticks it just takes practice. I can use chopsticks and it only took me a couple of weeks.

I'm prefect when talk about using chopsticks! But I don't use chopsticks to drink soup nor when I eat big mac or potato chips. Do you really use chopsticks in Mcdonald's????

Yes i can =)

yes

i am a pro at it !

Take your time to master... Soon enough, you will be a pro... (practise picking small food like cereals)

Yes. I'm Asian and I practically use it everyday.

yep, im a professional. they are my favorite way to eat. forget forks.

heck no i can't even hold the sticks good.

yes i can =D

like amy, im korean and my mom is the one who taught me. it was tough at first but now i can pick up pretty much anything with them

No, so please my dear don't feel bad that u can't use it.........

Yeah, I like using chopsticks when I'm at a Japanese or Chinese restaurant - it's part of the fun. Neighbors of mine taught me how to use them when I was in elementary school after a trip they took to Japan.

Keep practice, you will in some day.

Yes, I can. Started off clumsy naturally, but with more practices, I can even pick up peas in slippery gravy now.

No, not at all. My thumbs are wierd and my hands are small. So it ends up ugly and messy.
