Can someone help me find the right (sticky) rice cooker?!

Question: I have a friend who's been telling me she wants a rice cooker or a rice converter (?) for Christmas. Her stepmom is Asian and she makes that sticky rice using a rice cooker of some sort. My friend wants to make this at home, but I don't know what to get (I don't know the dad or the stepmom, so I can't ask them.) Can someone tell me what I need to buy? Please, Please??

i know the rice you are talking about. It is done mostly in a bamboo basket because it can't stay submerged in water. It is a deep woven basket, that sets inside an hour shaped pot. Then it is steamed for a while. Then you air it out, and put in into a separate bamboo basket with a top..You can go to a this store and ask them. Maybe they have some knew off the bottom ones. But look to pay around $100+ for a cooker it's not cheap...or you could just get her the original Bamboo Steam baskets.

a good rice cooker brand is zojirushi, hope thats somewhat helpful!

I'd think about this one, I ordered it about 2 months ago and it works great. This is a kit so it comes with the steamer, rice, cheese cloth, and some rice. It doesn't actually convert the rice, but you use a diferent kind of glutinous rice used in northern thailand and laos. If you can get the other supplies at home it would be cheaper just to get steamer baskit and pot by clicking on the cooking products link. http://importfood.com/cgi-importfood/sb/...

My mom is Korean and she uses a Zojirushi rice cooker. The rice is short grain rice and you can find it at Walmart or Oriental markets. The rice is what cooks sticky and it can be cooked in a regular pot 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice.Any rice cooker will achieve the results as long as you use short grain rice.

ZOJIRUSHI is the best rice cooker you'll get.

i am from taiwan (not thailand), this is the type of rice cooker we use.

the different between this type of rice cooker to japanese style rice cooker: this is a double-burner, it has an inner pot, the rice is basically "steam" cooked.
hope this helps.
