Guinea/West Africa food question....?!

Question: I was in Guinea Conakry not long ago and had a spice blend I wold love to purchase or recreate. We were eating skewered, grilled meat (either lamb or goat) and dipping it into mayonnaise which was heavily sprinkled with a reddish brown spice that my friend could only explain as "kan kan kan" or thats how it sounded to my ears.

I had many great foods while there andhave been able to recreate everything I enjoyed except this one thing. And it is so simple!! Can anyone help me out with this?!
