Buttermilk...?!

Question: What makes butter milk, butter milk? Do they add butter?

Answers: What makes butter milk, butter milk? Do they add butter?

butter is made from milk. they shake the milk up longer, but not long enough to turn into butter. we did this in mommy an me class when my son was 3. put whole milk into a jar and shake, shake, shake!

Buttermilk has most butterfat removed. Then a culture is added to give it this rich smooth taste.
It actually is a skim milk with the culture added.

True butter milk is what is left over after whipping/churning cream into butter. Most buttermilk you buy at the store tho is milk with lactic acid added.
