Think root cellar

garlic in a cabinet, potatoes n cabinet and onions in refrigerator

I find that the refrigerator is the best, although many would argue that.

Potatoes in a paper bag, and all can be stored in a dark cupboard in a cool place.

I live in a semi-tropical climate so store them all in the fridge.
When I lived in a more moderate climate, I stored the potatoes in a dark, cool wooden bin I bought from a homewares store, and the others in the fridge. Onions are less toxic to peel if they are cold so you won't have so many tears. The flavour of the garlic is not interfered with, it is the cooking that triggers it the best anyway.
