What is the difference between the different types of donuts that exist and how many types are out there?!

Cake donuts have no yeast in them. They are denser and heavier and pressed out of a mold directly over the hot oil. Raised donuts are made with a yeast-based dough and must rise first then are cut on a machine and dropped in the oil. All donuts are fried.

Wow. Good questions. Raised are the ones are chewier, with a more bread-like texture. The cake ones have a more cake-like texture. I think that most donuts, if not all, are fried for at least a short period of time. That's how they cook.
