When you cook basmatic rice do you always rinse it before serving?!
Answers: Mine seems to be a bit soggy.
you should always wash rice, about 3 changes off water should do,keep this tip to yourself!let the rice sit in the water for 1hour,then cook as usual, you will know what i mean!
Rinse it before cooking.
No, I cook in in 2 parts water to 1 part rice. I cook it until most of the water ,at least 95% of it (barely any water boiling), has been absorbed by the rice (and/or evaporated). Then I turn the heat off and cover the pot. The rice will slowly absorb the rest of the water over the next 10-15 minutes. Then serve.
I find this gives fluffy rice that is not soggy.
Actually, I just bought a rice cooker which works great also.
I've never heard of rinsing basmati rice after it's cooked. I just saute mine in olive oil, garlic, ginger, and curry powder, then add a cup of unrinsed basmati, stir until coated well, then 2 cups of broth, bring to a boil, slap a lid on it, reduce to a simmer and time it for 20 minutes. It's perfect every time. I've made it this way for years.
rinse rice before cooking then one part rice to two parts water, bring to the boil, turn down heat and cover with lid. cook for a few mintes DONT rinse, you,ll have perfect rice.
yes with boiling water, if you are eating it hot, and serve immediately, its ok to rinse with cold water if amking a cold dish.
never rinse rice after it is coOKed. It may be ok to rinse it before you cook it to get dust and starch off,. But once it is cooked is not the way to go.
My best bet is not to rinse at all.
warm a oven proof pan add 1 tble oil,add rice and stir to coat
add boiling water and bake at 350 for 20 min. do not stir while cooking this will break the hull on the rice and the starch will run out into the water and you will get very sticky gummy rice,,,,Good Luck
Sometimes I rinse all rice off before cooking. You may have overcooked it.
Yes, rinse rice before cooking. First, it's healthier because you need to rinse the dust off. Second, it helps remove the unnecessary starches (which can make it mushier). You should rinse it out until the water rinses off clear.
Your rice may have turned out a little soggy because there may have been just a little more water added.
What I usually do is pre-soak my basmati for about 30 minutes. Drain the rice and put in a pot. I use one part basmati rice to one part cold water. I add a little bit of clarified butter and salt to taste.
Bring rice to a boil, one stir and then immediately reduce heat to a simmer and cover (but can leave lid open to allow a little steam to escape. Never touch or stir the rice again after otherwise it will disrupt the cooking and texture.
This should take about 10 minutes too cook. Once all the water is absorbed, turn off the stove and let the rice sit for minutes before serving.
Gently fluff with fork....Perfect every time.
I never rinse any rice that I cook-I'm too lazy!
Yes I do, under cold water and reheat. Easy now we have microwaves. I also rinse the starch off before cooking.
I do it this way as when basmati became generally available (35 years ago?) a Bengali mate of mine told me that was how it's done at home.
If yours is soggy, either you are rinsing under hot water or cooking too long.
