Can water really go bad?!

Question: I just noticed there was an expiration date on my water bottle. I didn't realize water could ever expire or go bad, why do they have this?

Absolutely, it has everything bacteria needs water (obviously), oxygen and if its bottled water also nutrients, but even normal water has enough ionic composition to feed bacteria. And remeber to wash your water bottle if you leave it over night, most bacteria only need up an hour to multiply, but hot water and soap shoudl take care of them.

idk water cant really go bad it starts growing fungus at about three yaers but u know idk maybe they just made a mistake

it could go bad if it is just normal tap water.

yes it can go bad. i had this happen once when i was a kid. i put some water in a bottle and left it for a long time. i found it im my room about 6 mounths latter. when i opened it i smelled somthing bad come out of it. i tried to get my little brother to tast it but he told on me and my mom mad me poor it out. so ya it can go bad, but the kind you get in the store goes bad to. that is why they put dates on it.

yes it actually can.... when you drink from a bottle, some of the bacteria in your mouth goes into the water each time. And once you leave it sit, that bacteria can grow, and your water will have a smell to it. DON'T DRINK IT!

its not "fresh any more" it goes stale if its not drunk within a certain amount of time.. if its not moving bacteria has a place to grow.

I wouldn't worry about the expiration date unless you've opened it. The water is sterile. As soon as you open it bacteria will grow quickly though.

it is a distilled water so it will have a different taste, it should have an expiration date in order to have a good taste.... it is bad when you swallow an expired water... get an aspirin!!
