Peeled potatoes?!

Question: I peeled some spuds on Sunday for roasties but we changed our plan at the last minute so I put them in a bowl of water in the fridge. Haven't had a chance to use them since and was going to cook them tonight, they'll still be ok won't they? They are in water, I don't think they could go "off" could they?

I think they will be fine, they would be better of having been cooked though. The flavour maybe not at it's best but should be most definitely edible and shouldn't cause any upsets. Just look at them smell them, wash them out of the water and boil them. Bon Appetite!

lol...they're fine!

I'm not sure, potatoes are pretty hearty, but it is just not worth making yourself sick over a spud that costs less than a buck. If in doubt, throw it out. You can get some nasty food poisoning, but if they look okey and don't smell, give it a try. Just make sure you cook the heck out of them if you do.

they will be fine as long as they ar not going soft on edges and give them a wash before use

I grew up in Idaho so I must say that I consider myself somewhat of a potato buff. 4 days is too long for potatoes. If you look at the water they are in it should be cloudy and that is due to the starch that has been removed from the potato the flavor and texture of the potato has now been compromised. Throw them away and start over.

I wouldn't risk it ... you never know what chemical changes could have happened. Potatoes are hardy but we all know about not eating green etc .... as it's still inexpensive to buy potatoes (compared with other veg) I wouldn't use them.

I agree with the answerer above on starch etc.

Of course they will be fine, just look at the colour, if they have turned black anywhere then hoist those out.

yeh they shud be ok....x

Yes they can "go off".Being in water they lose properties and especially starch. They wouldn't be good at all.My suggestion is bin them!!!

yeah they will be fine

no point in askin this lot anythin, they probably never been near a raw vegetable (except their boyfriends) in their lives.the only time they ever seen anything close to a potato is at mcdonalds, dont worry they will be fine just dont leave them there for more than two days.

They won't be at their best, but shouldn't be inedible. You should be OK and not suffer ill unless discoloured, have a wierd texture or are honking.

How disgusting. They will be slimey......UGH!!!

Get them in the bin ......WELL WRAPPED.!!!

They will be all waxy and rubbery. If you have left over potatoes leave them in a covered bowl but do not put them in the fridge as it makes them go slimy.

I should think they will be okay. Just a bit watery. Maybe best boil them and mash them..
