I find your question a little tricky one coz I haven't really seen
anyone talking about British food that much. Most of the people usually talk about other foods like Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Greek and Indian foods etc. but not British coz they don't really have any special cuisine to be called as theirs. All they eat is just regular items like eggs, breads, bacons, mashed potatoe, fries, hamburgers, green salads, milk and fruits.
You lot are all forgetting national dishes such as Yorkshire Pudding, Toad-in-the-Hole (with onion gravy), Shepherds' Pie, Cottage Pie, Lancashire Hotpot, sausage and mash, Welsh Rarebit, and a gazillion different cheeses!
The food here is great! (although a little too reliant on wheat flour for my liking)
Yes it is. In Scotland we've got haggis neeps and tatties, mince and tatties, stovies, and really thick home made soup that's so good i use at least half a loaf of bread to go with it. Mmmm, i'm away to see what i can eat.
Definately! In the past, it has been too over shadowed by other international cuisines coming into the country, and it has more or lost lost it's identity in recent years. However, in certain places it is making a comebak and forever evolving.
The problem is that so few places do it so well. Most pubs nowadays are chain pubs where it's all pre packaged and frozen. For fresh down to earth british cooking my three favorite eateries are as follows:
The Queens Head at Newton near Cambridge, and ancient pub, still stuck in the middle ages, does rich earthy stews and fantastic steak and kidney puds.
Simpsons in the Strand, very traditional English eatery
St John in Smithfield, specialises in offal cookery, but does it absolutely fantasticly!
yes it is
Wooo - its about time someone on here said something good about British food, rather than just slagging it off!
I love British food....its the best! Now...what shall I have for dinner tonight?!
Mmm i love a good roast dinner!!
You just can't beat the classics, good old fashioned comfort food such as mince and tatties, steak pie, homemade soup and the best off all.... the Sunday roast, juicy beef (or meat of your choice) mashed and roast tatties, hunners of veg and yorkshire puds topped with gravy which of course is made with the stock from your roast. Our food may well be simple but yes it sure is delicious!
We Brits are the masters of stodge. Forget eating 'low carb' here!
Steak and Kidney pudding in a lovely suet pastry. Roast beef with Yorkshire puddings is my favourite meal of all time.
And you haven't lived until you've queued up at Eastgate Fisheries in Pickering (North Yorkshire) for fish and chips.
And who can forget that good old British classic, Chicken Tikka Masala (yes, it was created in Britain).
YES IT'S GOT TO BE BANGERS AND MASH WITH MUSHROOMS AND LOTS OF THICK GRAVY AND A COUPLE OF PINTS OF WHAT YOU FANCY.
YOU CAN'T BEAT A GOOD BRITISH PINT EITHER.
