Protein shakes/smoothies/drinks?!
i've decided to start drinking protein shakes (cause i started working out [legs specifically] so i can healthily have nice, thick legs [other than some fat which was on them before]) to help me bulk up a lil.. (they help right?-- even if they dont, your supposed to have protein wehn you work out right?)
so i need protein drink recipes (to make at home.. w/ strawberries etc. and protein powder i'm guessing)(or ones to buy at the store -- the ones without like 1000 grams of sugar) so which ones best? (home-made or store bought)
and i need recipes (or websites with good recipes) or a good store bought brand.
(i know there has to be some good tasting ones out there.. i had a good protein smoothie before, but dont remember how to make it..)
Answers: (i posted this before but didnt get any [good] answers so i'm trying to a different section)

You can buy protein shake powders... they already come in different flavors, like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. They just need to be mixed with either milk or water. I've had the "soy protein" and the "whey protein". The soy protein tastes better, but they say the whey protein is better for you. These powders are harder to mix than you think. You'll see what I mean. If you have a bottle that seals very tightly, you might be able to use that to mix them. I would go to GNC to get protein powder. They have many different brands and sizes. If you ask the clerk, they will tell you what's best.
Yes, you ARE supposed to have protein when you workout. Your muscles start growing immediately when you finish. I read in Men's Health that it's actually best to get your protein BEFORE you workout because when you're done, your muscles are screaming for it, and it could take awhile if you wait until afterward. You should still take into account how your stomach will feel if it's full and you workout. If you're going to drink the shake right before, then go easy the first few days so you don't upset your stomach terribly.
I personally think protein shakes are kind of gimmicky. I just make sure I eat before working out. It saves money too. It's not hard to find foods that are high in protein, and it's just as good as a protein shake. The most common are meat/eggs, nuts/peanut butter and beans.
I like the strawberry flavored protien powder. I don't know what its called but the package is either black or red and I get it at GNC. All I do is put like 6 or 7 frozen strawberries, 1 scoop of protien powder, some oj and some milk. Yum!
