If you go to Canada and order bacon, Will you get Ham or bacon?!

Question: I mean if you are in Canada you wouldn't call it Canadian bacon, would you. I would just think it is bacon. To go one step further do Canadians call bacon American bacon? I'm cunfuzzled.

I am a former chef and we call bacon just that, what Americans know as Canadian bacon is known as Back Bacon and is nnot widely used here, if you order bacon and eggs in any place up here you will get side or strip bacon, or as you would call it American Bacon?

We also have English bacon ( it is a cured pork loin not smoked) the back bacon which is a cured and smoked pork loin that is pressed to make it into a round shape, and a bacon known as peameal, it is the same cured pork loin only not smoked and rolled in cornmeal hence the name peameal, it is slighty more expensive on menus, but not smokey.

I hope as a Canadian and former chef, and I have been to the U.S several times and in my 20+ yrs as a chef I worked in Singapore, Tokyo and Montego Bay Jamaica, and the bacon there is the same as the US.

Ask the waitress what the bacon is like. If she describes strips, then it's more like American style bacon. If she describes a round slice, then it's what Americans call "Canadian Bacon".

I believe Canadians just call it "bacon". Their style is less fatty and cured slightly differently than Americans are used to.
