What's good to eat while in the hospital?!

Question: I'm having back surgery on Tuesday. Doc says I'll being staying in the hospital for 4 or 5 days. He told me I can eat anything I feel like eating after the surgery, and the hospital cafeteria provides a menu with several options. Taking into consideration my long stay, does anybody have any suggestions about what's usually good, and especially what to avoid. I know it varies by hospital, but I bet we can make some generalizations. I am pretty much an omnivore, but I can't stand meat that's chewy. Last time I had a hospital stay was many years ago, and I'm still traumatized by the jello with hard edges filled with grapes that were partially frozen. A close second was the ham with raisin sauce. I'm looking forward to your suggestions, especially from those who have dined in hospital lately.

theres nothin good about hospital food babe

Only what they give you. Diet is important in healing.

If you doctor said you could eat anything that you like pick the foods you know you like off the menu. If you don't like something they will bring you something else. The last time I was in the Hospital the food surprisingly was good. Stick to healthy choices and speedy recovery.

my bf was in the hospital for a week and he wouldn't eat the hospital food I kept having to go get him mcdonald's or subway or go to my mom's house and take some of her food. so if you can find someone who will do that for you then go for it.
One thing that really bothered him especially was the lack of drink options and quantity available. If you like little juice boxes that you can take 2 sips out of then it's empty, then don't worry about it. But if you're picky and you like hawaiian punch or sweet tea or something like that I'd bring a jug of it with you so you have something to drink that you like. They will have cups and ice for you to use.

I would find out what they have and choose from things you like. Personally, I can't stand hospital food. it's too bland and I don't really like to eat much of anything as it is. I'm with you; I hate jello, ham(in any way, shape, or form) or any other meat besides chicken/turkey wings, and anything with raisins=forget about it! I don't drink much juice either, especially grape or pineapple. I've never been hospitalized longer than a few hours but I have tasted hospital food and it is nasty.

ice cream
that is wat i had

have someone bring you something in. Home cooked or fast foods. A while back i was in for a few weeks and a nurse would go to arbys, subway, etc before she came in to get me something decent. I think that saved me as much as the surgery.

omg, are you okay? why are you admitted? what's wrong? don't worry okay, you'd get better soon. Sorry, about not answering this question and being a busy body but that's just the way i am, for some reason. I really don't know what's good to eat when in a hospital. Anyway, take good care of yourself. God bless.

I have been in hospital a few times in my life (about 8 times) my most recent stay was in September? All hospital food is different so if you have a friends/family member that's been in your hospital then its an idea to ask them personally. When i go into hospital i tend to give toast and sandwiches a miss as my first hospital stay I had toast and it was that bad i could not swallow it as it was so chewy. I enjoyed that soups, and the cooked meals were nice. When i do stay in hospital i tend to give people some money to grab me some food to bring into me in case theres nothing i like on the menu or if the food i have i dont like at least theres something there to eat if i get hungry
