Can you freeze walnuts?!

Question: I am asking about both shelled and unshelled. Will the flavor or texture be changed? Will it keep them from becoming rancid?
Thanks,
Hope

Yes you can, I used to do this all the time when my father in law would give us pecans and walnuts from his grove. Just put them in a good ziplock FREEZER bag. They keep for a long time in the deep freeze, not as long in the fridge freezer. You can but them in shelled or unshelled. We use to put the unshelled ones in a burlap bag and just close up sitting it in the deep freeze.

have frozen shelled one.. and they are fine.. have kept them for over a year... don't think i would freeze them in the shell.

it will preserve them, and you can freeze them either shelled, or in-shell.

Make sure the nuts are completely dry, and free of moisture before freezing them, to try to prevent freezer burn/frost from accumulating.

I know you can freeze them without their shell and they should keep fresh for a long time, if you freeze them in a jar or ziploc bag. I don't think it changes their flavor, just thaw them out well when you do eat them.

yes you can they are still good and last awhile

I keep mine in the fridge it just keeps them from becoming rancid. just make sure that they are in a tightly sealed container or zip lock bag so that the smells from the fridge don't infiltrate it.

Yes. Freezing them makes them keep longer.

You can definitely freeze walnuts but I wouldn't freeze unshelled. The flavour keeps for months and you only need to toast them lightly in a pan or oven to increase the flavour more. I freeze all nuts mostly I use them cooking or baking although I also use walnuts and almonds for snacks. I have never had frozen nuts become rancid. Perhaps it's possible. Maybe I use them up too fast. They are healthy - well the delicious macadamia nuts are a tad high in saturated fat.
