How can I get rid of used vegetable oil?!
Answers: I'm new to the cooking and not sure where to put the grease, I'd much prefer just throwing it away, any ideas? I don't have much that I can put the grease in, I have plastic bags and an empty carton (just moved in my apartment)
that's a VERY interesting question I've put to a specialist some time ago.
Back then he told me to put it back to an empty plastic bottle and use this bottle several times until it's full. Than throw it normally to domestic garbage.
Experience shows that Little quantity of that substance pollutes large quantities of clean water, so we have to pick a simple and fast way of polluting as less as possible, but still using handy things and ideas.
Take care

use empty plastic milk container....I use folgers coffee cans and tape the tops....
Grease will decompose if landfilled. You can mix it with newspapers, kitty litter, or sawdust and simply toss it (check with your local sanitation authority to ask their advice). You can also dispose of used cooking oil by giving it to neighbors who use it to power their diesel cars - perhaps if you have enough (a few gallons) you can take an ad out on Craigslist?
You can compost it..but sounds like you're a little limited on space and such...I just pour it into a can or carton, let it cool..and toss it in the garbage. It is biodegradable. If you run it down the drain, tho' expect bad things.
When the oil is cool, pour it into a plastic bag, tie or snap seal it shut & toss.
Yeah just trash it. That's what I do. Pour it in a bag then toss it in the trash. I know some people just toss it down the drain, but you need to run hot water for a while so it doesn't clump up and clog your drain.
I save empty water or soda bottles to put the old oil in. I keep it handy until full then toss it in the trash.
If I've only used it to cook french fries in, I either put it back in the original bottle or a bottle no one drank from and store that in the fridge. (Being "old" to cooking, I sometimes save my oil from fried chicken the same way and use it the next time I fry chicken)
put in any empty container and toss in the garbage
i would normally pour the used oil into a plastic container. if its not used in a day or 2, i will discard it.
