What's that thing that people on Food Network use to for zesting?!
What is it called and where can I buy it? Have you used one before?
Thank you SO MUCH!! Sorry that I'm so confused about what it is, but that's why I'm asking! 10 points to whoever can tell me what it is and where I can buy it - any other info would be great!
Answers: It's like a long board maybe only about two inches wide...a lot of people on the Food Network use it for zesting things like lemons and oranges. (It's possible that it may be a tool that's not actually meant for the kitchen because I watch Good Eats and Alton Brown often uses..tools...but it may just be called a zester - I have no idea..sorry)

What your looking for is a microplane, like several people have said. They do have several different kinds and yes some can be found at Home Depot. The kind your looking for can be found in most kitchen or chefs shops. Try this website:

Also on that same website, on a different page you can find the microplanes they use in wood working:

I found one at Wal Mart for $3.99 for my sister.
Hope this helps. Happy zesting!
I know exactly what you are asking about - It's called a microplane and looks like a thin grater. Most high end kitchen stores have them. Try Sur la Table or Bed bath and beyond - there are laso zesters - heres one available at amazon if that's what you are looking for.
It is called a rasp (maybe spelled wrasp) and it is actually a carpenter's tool. Look for one at Home Depot. They are about an inch or 1.5 inches wide.
I call it a zester too. There's a bigger one out for things like chocolate that's called a microplane. Maybe this is the word you're looking for.
If you got an Ikea nearby, they have a little gizmo for zesting, otherwise you can use the fine side of a regular grater.
It's called a microplane. I have had mine for a couple of years and love it. Most kitchen stores sell them. I bought mine at Crate & Barrel, but I've seen them at lots of specialty kitchen stores.
i think you should look it up in a book or on the internet
You can get a citrus zester or a micro plane rasp grater. They both work. The grater can be used to do nutmeg and cinnamon though - so that's a plus. They run about $16 at Williams-Somona. You can get them on line or at the store.
Happy Cooking!
Its a Microplane...
You can get them at Bed Bath and Beyond, wal-mart, Williams and Sonoma (if ur willing to spend the extra $$$)...any place that sells kitchen untensils...
its best to get ones with a handle thats gripable...so that it doesn't slip out of your hands when you are zesting...
They can also be called zesters, as you said, or graters...some people just use a cheese grater instead of a microplane...does the same thing...just big pieces of zest.
