Grocery Shopping Question...?!

Question: OK, this problem has been frusturating me for a while now. My boyfriend and I go shopping at least once a week, but we never seem to have food or ingredients to make a meal. We don't buy junk food or fast frozen food or whatever...but we never seem to have food for longer than two or three days. My question is, how do you deal with this and what is a good grocery list that solves this problem?

the problem might be that maybe you guys eat a lot of food. if its not that, maybe you guys arnt getting enough food. it also depends on if you have children or not. children are big on snacks. if you guys eat too much food, try to eat smaller portions. then you wont have to go shopping every two or three days. here's a basic simple grocery list that you might like to have:

1). Milk
2).Bread
3).Eggs
4).cheese
5).fruit
6).yogurt
7).vegetables
8).snacks
9).soups

i hope this works for u. if it doesnt, i would love to help. if you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 509-481-5191

Decide on a recipe for a meal, then write it on a shopping list.

wow good question!!

Make a list before you go of all the ingredients you need for particular meals. Mine usually consist of a main dish (meat) and 2 veggies. Go by what is on your list and ONLY what is on your list.

we faced this prob at home with 4 roomies- here's a list that worked for us:
2-3 packets of bread, one packet of shredded cheese, 3-4 kinds of veggies, and 3-4 packets of frozen veggies for emergencies, 3 packets of cereal, 1-1.5 gallons of milk and a large supply of potatoes, garlic and onions- u have these 3 ingredients and you can dish out something at least... plus economy packs of non-perishables like spreads, frozen food, waffles, honey etc... should work for you guys!!

Depending on your normal diet there are staples that you should always keep in the kitchen - flour, eggs, milk, sugar, brown sugar (you'll use it more than you realize), spices/seasonings, sauces/condiments (bottled in the fridge - or mix packets to be made when needed) chicken, hamburger, pasta, rice, cream soups (used in tons of different recipes). Then each week when you go to the store besides restocking the essentials, pick up items like veggies, fruits, any cravings you are having like a certain cereal or fish or whatever, and any special ingredients you need for recipes you're thinking of making that week. That way you don't have to "plan" your meals in advance if you don't want b/c you'll have the ingredients to throw something together, but if you choose to make something you've been wanting to try you'll only have to pick up a couple of extra items.
