Who wants tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich?!

Question: Yes, a classic food combination.

Answers: Yes, a classic food combination.

I just want grilled cheese!

I do! it is an amazing combo.

This is like my most favorite lunch in the whole wide world!!!

Yes please. Its cold here.

That sounds delicous

Yum! Progresso Basil Tomato is really good. I like tuna melts sometimes instead of the grilled cheese.

Gimmi!

Dunno about the tomato soup, but due to your ingenious suggestion... i just made the most awesome, buttery, delicious grilled cheese I've ever crafted in my life! LOL THANKS!

Yum!!!
Just the night before last I made myself some tomato soup, and a grilled cheese sandwich for my son the next day (better for me if I avoid that one!).

But this is the version of the tomato soup I made, which comes from my old (1971 edition) of Betty Crocker's Cookbook (must give credit where credit is due!):

HEARTY TOMATO SOUP (4 1-cup servings)

1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 package (3 oz.) cream cheese, softened
2 cans (10 3/4 oz. each) condensed tomato soup
1 soup can milk*
1/2 paprika
1/2 tsp sweet basil leaves*
1/8 tsp garlic powder*

In medium saucepan, cook and stir onion in butter until onion is tender. Stir in cream cheese. Gradually stir in soup and milk; beat with rotary beater until smooth*. Add seasonings. Heat, stirring frequently, but do not boil. If desired, garnish each serving with sieved egg yolk*.

* My variations:
1) I use 1-2 cloves finely chopped garlic (instead of powder), and sauté it together with the onion.
2) I use frozen chopped basil, not the dry kind (since I usually want this soup in the winter, and we only have fresh basil in the summer), and increase the amount to 1 tsp, or to taste.
3) I add about half a can of water, too, because otherwise it's a bit to thick for my taste (and that way I have more of it, too!).
4) I usually don't bother with the rotary beater; I just stir it and smoosh it around with a wooden spoon until it is well blended (after all, there are pieces of onion and garlic).
5) "Sieved egg yolk"? Never tried it. I love it as it is!
